To reduce bloat, boost immunity, and slow down aging, there is a morning ritual that’s known to do some miracle work. And that’s drinking a glass of warm lemon water first thing in the morning every day. 

Lemon water in the morning is said to be a natural way to reap the benefits offered by this amazing citrus fruit. 

Some wellness enthusiasts have claimed it can help with anything from clearing skin, losing weight, reducing bloat, and boosting immunity.

But is it really worth the hype? I tested it so you don’t have to. 

Although there is no scientific evidence available to prove this theory, lemon water in the morning has still become a popular trend these days.

Benefits of Hot Lemon Water

We know that lemons are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, but what does adding them to hot water do for our bodies?

Aside from the nutrition from the lemons themselves, adding them to warm or hot water can help improve hydration first thing in the morning.

Many of us are used to our coffee or caffeinated teas which dehydrate us. If we don’t drink enough water throughout the day, it can cause us to feel lethargic, fatigued, and have slow digestion.

Those who drink water, or other hydrating beverages, before consuming a meal also tend to eat less. This means your warm lemon water could potentially help reduce portion sizes and promote weight loss. 

To test out the hype, I decided to add a cup of warm lemon water to my morning routine before breakfast. Here is a summary of what I noticed.

The combination of hot water with lemon will help to clean out toxins from your body and wake up your digestive tract. This is the detox drink to enjoy in the morning on an empty stomach.

Ingredients

  • ½ fresh lemon – juiced
  • Slices of fresh ginger (optinal)
  • 1 cup of warm water

Instructions

  1. Squeeze the fresh lemon juice and pour it into a cup of warm water. Enjoy!

Notes

I like to drink it on an empty stomach, but that's my preference. You can have it how you prefer.

Warm Lemon Water for 1 Week

Day 1

On day one I struggled a little bit. I love lemon but lemon tea first thing in the morning is a little sour for my taste. After sipping it down and going about the rest of my day, I didn’t really notice any difference. 

Day 2

On day two I will admit that I noticed my digestion appeared to be working better in the morning. Although I cannot say for sure it was related to the tea, it made me feel a lot lighter and ready for the day. I even considered skipping my morning coffee.

Day 3

By day three I felt like I could get used to having warm lemon water in the mornings. Although it’s still somewhat challenging during the summer months when I crave cold, refreshing drinks over hot ones, the lemon water seems to be making me feel pretty good. I noticed I have even dropped a pound or two since I started.

Day 4

By day four I have stopped drinking my morning coffee completely and am only taking my lemon water. I still feel energized to start my day which can likely be attributed to the extra boost of hydration.

Day 5

By day five I am feeling pretty good. Although I can’t say this has been a life-changing experience, I do feel the addition of the warm lemon water has been really helpful for my digestion. I can start the day feeling energized, light, and focused without needing my usual dose of caffeine. 

Overall, my experience with warm lemon water in the mornings was good. Although it does not prove that any of the reported benefits are true, it does not hurt to add this to your routine. In fact, you may find that you actually enjoy it.
